Beautification and Promotion
In 2010, Intown was proud to annouce a new partnership with NHIA’s illustration department where students compete to have their designs featured on the Street Banner Program. The street banner program, produced annually by Intown Manchester and sponsored by local businesses, as we discussed in 2001’s post, adds vibrancy and a continual themed look to Downtown streetscapes. The design and theme for the banners changes annually. Proceeds from the program go directly into annual beautification and maintenance initiatives in Dwontown. About 15-20 students submit their original artwork reflecting their vision of Downtown Manchester. The Intown Manchester Board of Trustees then votes to pick the final artwork! We are so grateful to have such amazing, original artwork each year on our banners!
Downtown Development
In 2010, the Pandora Building was transformed from an abandoned mill to a gorgeous (inside and out!) mill from top to bottom, complete with a new parking deck and landscaping – a fitting standard bearer to the gateway of our city, Granite Street, and to our historic treasures in the Amoskeag Millyard. The Pandora Mill is now home to UNH Manchester, anchoring Manchester’s place as a college town! Did you know that the 2010 renovation of the mill won a 2011 Preservation Achievement Award from the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance awarded to Mark Carrier Construction? Awesome!
