#foodiefriday Jun-2-2017

Happy Friday, Manchester!

Yesterday Sara and I got to tour Penuche’s Music Hall at 1087 Elm Street,

and we were impressed! Their outdoor seating is brand new and custom- a beautiful and bright orange that really pops on the sidewalk!   They added balcony seating and spruced up the chandeliers. The bathrooms were completely redone to look modern and luxurious.

But the best part of all: They now serve mudslides! The perfect cold treat on a warm summer day. Penuche’s is planning to have live music as often as possible, so keep an eye out for fun shows this summer!

#foodiefriday Apr-8-2016

Happy #foodiefriday! I was SO excited about yesterday. Why? It was National Beer Day! In the past year or so I have been trying my best to expand my beer palette and with the patience of some great friends I am well on my way! The beer world is more extensive then I ever thought and our Downtown pubs, tap houses, taverns and brewers are at the forefront of the craft beer revolution! There are plenty of places to celebrate this amazing day a day later (safely, of course!). See our online restaurant directory here, or check out some spots we’ve highlighted below!

I found some details on the origin of the day on www.nationaldaycalendar.com. They write:

On April 7, 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt took the first step toward ending Prohibition and signed a law that allowed people to brew and sell beer, in the United States, as long as it remained below 4.0% alcohol by volume (ABV).  Beer drinkers celebrated and were happy to be able to purchase beer again for the first time in thirteen years.

Our research found that this day was created as National Beer Day, an “unofficial” holiday by Justin Smith, a Richmond, VA Craft Beer Examiner and his friend Mike Connolly from Liverpool, England.   April 7th was chosen because of the Cullen-Harrison Act being signed into law and becoming effective on this day.  In 2009, a National Beer Day Facebook page was created by Smith and Connolly from which they invited friends to join.  From that page, word has spread and April 7 is known by many sources as National Beer Day.

What’s your favorite place in downtown to grab a cold one?
