#foodiefriday July-22-2016

While scrolling through Facebook this week I stumbled upon this post by Mint Bistro:

Now I don’t know about you, but to me the thought of sipping on a fresh mint Mojito is quintessential Summer. Bright, citrusy,  and most importantly, COLD!

Of course, the perfect summer drink differs from person to person. Some people prefer an ice cold brew. Others might like a frozen margarita. Luckily, there’s no shortage of options for icy drinks in downtown! So the next time you’re craving a brisk drink, be sure to stop by Elm Street!

What’s your favorite summer drink?

#foodiefriday June-12-2015

Happy #foodiefriday! I just took a look at the weather forecast for this weekend, and it’s supposed to be in the mid-eighties now through Sunday. Looks like this weekend will be the perfect time to break out the grill, hop in the pool, or work on those much-needed tans!

If the weather isn’t proof enough that summer is here, then the specials downtown should be! Scrolling through facebook this week, I’ve seen everything from fresh lemonade and luau-themed drinks to salads covered in fruits and thick grilled burgers. And of course, it wouldn’t be summer without my personal favorite, ice cream! Julia and I stopped into the Dancing Lion to try a scoop of their Mexican Vanilla Ganache, and we were IMPRESSED! It was thick and creamy, made with farm fresh eggs. The perfect pick-me-up for a boring Tuesday!

Guest Blog: Manchester’s Restaurants & Eats Week

This article was originally posted on the University of New Hampshire at Manchester’s blog.

By Olivia Pollock, Communication Arts senior, UNH Manchester

This upcoming week is Eats Week in Manchester, and many of the best restaurants around the city are participating. Eats Week is an event hosted by Intown Manchester, where participating restaurants offer dining deals for the entire week of April 5th to April 12th.

I took this week as a wonderful opportunity to test out some of the best establishments around the city.

The first restaurant that I stopped at was Firefly American Bistro & Bar. I walked up to the restaurant on a sunny afternoon after class, and sat in the bar area watching sports and enjoying my cuisine.

Throughout Eats Week, Firefly will be offering specialty brunch, lunch, and dinner menus at discounted prices. I would highly recommend their signature “go-go bread”, which was named Manchester’s best food item 2013, but you really can’t go wrong with any of their options.

Another restaurant participating in Eats Week is Portland Pie Company. Portland Pie is known for their delicious dough and gourmet pizzas. They have a large menu of pizza choices, but they also offer a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, pasta, and more.

Eats Week 2014Portland Pie offers 10% off for students throughout the year. During Eats Week, they will be offering 3 courses for 2 people for only $24.99. Just be sure to ask for their pre-fix Eats Week menu.

900 Degrees is another pizzeria that will be participating in the weekly deals. They carry a wide menu full of delicious soups, salads, pastas, and signature pizzas.

They will be offering a number of deals during Eats Week including select lunches for $5 and dinner for 2 for only $20, as well as a separate year-round 10% off discount for students.

Some of the other Eats Week participants will include Mint Bistro, Murphy’s Diner, and Jade Dragon. You can find their deals and others on the Intown Manchester website.

And if you are unable to head out for the deals this week, there are still plenty of restaurants around Manchester with great food and amazing deals.

Margarita’s is one of the most popular spots in the city for drinks and Mexican food. Their restaurant and bar offer classic Mexican dishes, appetizers, and the best chips and salsa in the city (in my opinion), all in the company of a fun environment.

Wednesdays at Margarita’s are college nights, where students can order one free entrée for every two students who bring their valid ID. A great idea for a fun mid-week break with friends.

Milly’s Tavern is another restaurant that offers deals for students. Located right next to UNH Manchester, students can walk over after class, enjoy food and drinks, and get 15% off their order with a valid ID.

One of the best pubs in the area, Milly’s offers a fun environment and a menu full of soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and entrées. And of course you can’t miss out on their craft brewed beer!

Some of the other can’t miss restaurants in Manchester include the Cotton, Red Arrow Diner, XO on Elm, JW Hills, Ignite Bar & Grill, and many, many more.

So get out there, enjoy some great deals and delicious food, and eat!
