#foodiefriday Mar-10-2017

We are officially one week away from St. Patrick’s Day! We’ve begun to round up some celebrations happening throughout Downtown in a special blog post here! I look forward to all the fun Irish food every year, and Downtown most certainly does not disappoint.

Some St Patty’s Day #foodie highlights:

  • The Rover serves an amazing traditional Irish breakfast that will be served up starting at 6am and feature giveaways all day long!
  • Stark Brewing Co. will be serving their classic corned beef and featuring two new stouts for St. Patrick’s day only: Raspberry Chocolate and Tirimisu made with cold pressed coffee!
  • The Shaskeen will kick off at 5:30am with breakfast, and of course pints, and feature their Irish Classics for lunch and dinner: The Corned Beef Dinner and Guinness Beef Stew!

For more details, visit our full St. Patty’s post here!

#foodiefriday Sept-11-2015

Good morning, Manchester! This is Trixie, bringing you the latest foodie Friday pics.

This past week Julia and I attended a MYPN event at 815. We frequent here pretty regularly, their crafted drinks and cheese boards are always a great treat at the end of a long week. However, this week we were lucky enough to witness the guys in action and learn what really makes a specialty cocktail.

  1. Fresh ingredients. You may not think it, but the difference between using Tropicana vs. fresh squeezed orange juice is going to play a huge role in your final product. That’s why 815 uses fresh juices made every morning.
  2. Strike a balance. Is the spirit you’re using naturally sweet, or sour, or smoky? Learn what flavor profile you like and build from there by using ingredients that will compliment that flavor.
  3. Use proper tools. You don’t want to serve a martini in a highball glass, and a quarter ounce more or less of any one element can ruin your whole drink. Investing in a good set of tools will really boost your bar tending game.

Of course, if you don’t have the time or energy to put into making a killer cocktail, the folks at 815 will be happy to do it for you!

TIM BARRY LIVE @ THE SHASKEEN

The first time one of his friend’s fathers saw singer/songwriter Tim Barry perform, he summed up his thoughts with a Yogi Berra-worthy declaration: “You’re old-timey in a modern way.” That’s a near perfect description for the artist who sums up his latest solo release, Lost & Rootless in a single word: WOODEN. “That’s the feel that I was going for when I picked the songs,” says Barry. “There’s violin, voice, a wooden resonator guitar…there’s a very subtle electric bass on one track, but otherwise I wanted to do a wooden record.” To get your tickets now, click here!

CHROMATROPIC LIVE @ PENUCHE’S

Chromatropic is as unique as their name would suggest. While the Brooklyn band’s lineage can be traced from a wide variety of musical influences, the end result is difficult to categorize. #foodiefriday July-31-2015

Happy #foodiefriday! I don’t know about you, but this is my favorite day of the week. Looking at all the different cuisine that Downtown has to offer gets me excited for the weekend!

Recently Julia and I have been in a bit of a lunch rut. We try to stay healthy, but our home-packed lunches aren’t quite enough. We were on the search for something simple yet exciting, and then we found the Midtown Cafe.

The Midtown cafe is a small shop inside the Beacon building on Elm Street. They serve up plenty of classics like grilled cheeses and BLT’s, but they also have plenty of fun twists! My favorite part is that you can add sriracha to any of the sandwiches they serve. I love being able to have that extra kick!

How do you all beat the lunchtime blues?
