#foodiefriday Sept-30-2016

Happy Friday, Manchester! This week’s post is brought to you by Trixie, and is dedicated to a very special woman who passed on earlier this week, Julia’s Aunt Nina.

If you’ve met Julia, you know that she’s proud of her big, crazy Italian family! Her heritage is a prevalent part of how she lives her day to day life, especially when it comes to food. After doing some research into Italian customs, I learned that food sharing is the biggest way to connect families and friends. Whether to show love in times of celebration, or show support in times of great loss, it is the Italian way to come together and share a homemade meal.

Although I never met her, I do know that Nina was a pillar of the LoCascio family, and holds a significant place in the hearts of many.

So in honor of Auntie Nina, I’d like to share this recipe for Italian Cookies with you all. May you get to share these and many more homemade recipes with your loved ones!

Throwback Thursday Feb-4-2016

For this week’s Throwback Thursday, I thought it fitting to revisit some images we pulled out of the Manchester Historic Association’s archives in August 2014 showing presidential visits of Manchester’s past. Now that the Presidential Primary in just a few DAYS AWAY, it’s fun to reflect on the Circus that New Hampshire residents love to embrace every four years (myself included!)! What candidates have you seen in New Hampshire thus far!?

Included in this post are images from Presidents T. Roosevelt, Taft, and Ford’s respected visits. While there are no images (I could find) of President Abraham Lincoln’s visit to Manchester in 1860, I did find a sobering one of the Smyth Block (owned by Governor Frederick Smyth then Republican City Chairman and an avid supporter of President Lincoln) dressed in black for Lincoln’ assassination just five years after his visit.

I hope you enjoy these great shots!

And don’t forget to stop by the Millyard Museum for their Special Exhibit: Manchester, the Presidency & the Primary! View details here.

Throwback Thursday Nov-5-2016

For this week’s Throwback Thursday, I thought it fitting to revisit some images we pulled out of the Manchester Historic Association’s archives in August 2014 showing presidential visits of Manchester’s past. Now that the City elections are over, all of New Hampshire is looking forward to The Presidential Primary in just a few months in February! You’ve got to love NH’s political cycle!
