As I was grabbing my daily coffee this morning, I stopped to pick up a copy of this week’s Hippo. Immediately, the giant picture of delectable chicken tenders on the front cover had me dreaming of my favorite comfort foods! I know comfort food preferences vary from person to person, but I doubt there’s a single human on this planet that will deny enjoying a guilty pleasure comfort food now and again. My personal favorite? Just happens to be buffalo chicken tenders, and Stark Brewing Co. is my favorite place to grab them. Next? Chocolate ice cream. I usually stop into Ben & Jerry’s for some Chocolate Therapy when I need a summertime afternoon pick-me-up. The Farm is also great for filling my need for comfort food. There’s nothing like their Pulled Pork Sandwich!

What is your favorite comfort food? Where downtown do you go to get your fix?

Happy Friday! Although the weather had a fun April Fool’s Day prank to play on us, I think it’s safe to say the Spring is finally here. The weather forecast still reads that next week we’ll be launched into some beautiful sunny days before the spring showers hit!

I think the best way to celebrate warm weather is with cool drinks, and it seems that A&E Coffee agrees. They’ve got some awesome specials for the month of April that’ll help you cool down and enjoy that weather!

The following is a guest post by A&E Coffee

A&E Coffee & Tea is launching two new Feature Drinks in April, the Very Berry Cream Soda and the Spring Break Latte. “These are a continuation of our craft approach to drinks in our cafes,” says Emeran Langmaid, owner. “We are constantly striving to come up with creative ways to make drinks using real, natural ingredients. Certainly as the craft cocktail has become popular, craft lattes and au laits are following suit.”

The Very Berry Cream Soda is a spin-off of the widely popular Espresso Cream Soda made at A&E Coffee & Tea. It uses only 5 ingredients: organic very berry tea, cream, seltzer, house made vanilla simple syrup and garnished with fruit.

The Spring Break Latte is concocted with orange zest infused almond coconut milk, espresso and house made vanilla simple syrup. It can be served hot or iced.

Good morning, Manchester! This is Trixie, bringing you the latest foodie Friday pics.

This past week Julia and I attended a MYPN event at 815. We frequent here pretty regularly, their crafted drinks and cheese boards are always a great treat at the end of a long week. However, this week we were lucky enough to witness the guys in action and learn what really makes a specialty cocktail.

  1. Fresh ingredients. You may not think it, but the difference between using Tropicana vs. fresh squeezed orange juice is going to play a huge role in your final product. That’s why 815 uses fresh juices made every morning.
  2. Strike a balance. Is the spirit you’re using naturally sweet, or sour, or smoky? Learn what flavor profile you like and build from there by using ingredients that will compliment that flavor.
  3. Use proper tools. You don’t want to serve a martini in a highball glass, and a quarter ounce more or less of any one element can ruin your whole drink. Investing in a good set of tools will really boost your bar tending game.

Of course, if you don’t have the time or energy to put into making a killer cocktail, the folks at 815 will be happy to do it for you!
