Happy #foodiefriday!

This past week I had a birthday and I got to celebrate by grabbing a free scoop of ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s! I’m not much into sweets, but ice cream is my one true weakness, especially if it’s chocolate! Of course, I had to get Chocolate Therapy so I could fully indulge myself in birthday bliss.

Wanna get a free scoop of ice cream for your birthday too? Sign up for Ben & Jerry’s newsletter here!

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?

As I was grabbing my daily coffee this morning, I stopped to pick up a copy of this week’s Hippo. Immediately, the giant picture of delectable chicken tenders on the front cover had me dreaming of my favorite comfort foods! I know comfort food preferences vary from person to person, but I doubt there’s a single human on this planet that will deny enjoying a guilty pleasure comfort food now and again. My personal favorite? Just happens to be buffalo chicken tenders, and Stark Brewing Co. is my favorite place to grab them. Next? Chocolate ice cream. I usually stop into Ben & Jerry’s for some Chocolate Therapy when I need a summertime afternoon pick-me-up. The Farm is also great for filling my need for comfort food. There’s nothing like their Pulled Pork Sandwich!

What is your favorite comfort food? Where downtown do you go to get your fix?

Happy Friday, Manchester!

Although it may not be widely celebrated, today just happens to be National Gummi Worm Day! Of course, we in the office never need an excuse to eat more candy. Here’s a little bit of history about how National Gummi Worm Day came to be from Daysoftheyear.com:

History of Gummi Worm Day
Before we can talk about Gummi Worms, we have to talk about Gummi Bears. Gummi Bears were the original Gummi candy created by the Haribo company in 1920. These delicious ursine candies came in a broad variety of fruit flavors and were intended for both adults and children to enjoy. The secret to these little candies gumminess is from a careful mixture of special ingredients, the most important being the gelatin that helps to give the candy its form, and the sugar and citric acid that gives it its flavor.
From these initial gummi candies, many other types and shapes came into existence, but none of them could take the crown from the popular gummi bear. It wasn’t until Trolli created the gummi worm that this changed. Gummi worms were fun to eat, they could easily be used to create creative desserts, and were even more fun (in our opinion) to eat than gummi bears!
Gummi Worm Day was organized to celebrate the fellow confectionary monarch to the gummi bear, and the amazing Trolli company that brought it into existence. Gummi worms comes in even more flavors and varieties than the original gummi bear, including all the basic flavors, sweet and sour flavors, and our personal favorite, the sour gummi worm.”

Since I’m sure you now have a hankering for something sweet, you can get your gummi worm fix right here in downtown at Granite State Candy Shoppe!

After 10 great years in Downtown (and one of my favorite tacos on the Taco Tour) JW Hill’s has sadly closed their doors. We’d like to thank them for being a great neighbor for the past decade and wish them all the best!

Now that the space at 795 Elm Street is for lease, we (at the Intown office) were brainstorming what type of restaurant or business we’d like to see as an addition to our already great downtown! We like to dream big here in our little office and have conjured a few cool ideas ourselves! What would you like to see in the space!?

We are officially less than one week away from my favorite holiday of the year–Thanksgiving! I would like to be bashful and say “I don’t even know where to start” when talking about my favorite part of Thanksgiving, but I know exactly where to start…Mashed potatoes. My family has been heading to my aunt and uncle’s house in Massachusetts for Thanksgiving for quite a few years now and they whip up the most heavenly mashed potatoes on Earth. I’m not exaggerating in the least about these potatoes. They are life-changing. As you can see in this photo of my plate from last year… my potato to turkey to stuffing ratio is comical. Just the way I like it!

What’s your favorite part of Thanksgiving?
