SATURDAY AUGUST 5

FAMILY POTTERY WORKSHOP | 12:00 PM | STUDIO 550

This is most appropriate for kids 9 and up, but younger children (6 is the youngest) who have the focus and dexterity are welcome as well. Throwing on the pottery wheel is not the easiest thing to learn, so parents are advised that they may need to assist their children. If you have a younger child, try the Family Clay Workshop from 1:30-2:30 on Saturdays, where we sculpt with clay without using the pottery wheel. Instead of being limited to the wheel, your child can sculpt a dragon, ornaments, a crazy fish, or… anything, really. It is much easier for younger children to work with clay without a wheel.

About the workshop:
Parent and child will each get their own wheels. The class begins with a quick demonstration, participants then get to throw on the pottery wheel, and the last 10-15 minutes is reserved for clean up. Because we are limited to 8 participants in a class and because throwing on the wheel is more involved than clay sculpting, there is a limit of one child per parent.

This class is held monthly from 12-1PM on the First Saturday of each month. Please plan to arrive 10 minutes prior to allow for check in, get aprons on and get situated for the demo to start at noon. The sooner we get settled, the more time you will have to throw on the wheel!

CLAY WORKSHOP | 1:30 PM OR 3:00 PM | STUDIO 550

This is not a wheel-throwing class. If you are interested in wheel throwing with your child, please reserve a spot in our “Family Pottery Workshop” (every first Saturday from 12-1) or the “Try it! Clay Workshop from 3-6” (every Saturday). Wheel throwing tends to be more appropriate for kids 9+

Come in Saturday afternoon 1:30-2:30 with your kid (or a couple of kids) to share the magic of clay together. You will each get to hand-sculpt a clay project from scratch. Kids of all ages are welcome, but if your child is 5 or under, you may spend a bulk of the workshop helping your child sculpt their piece. There is no defined lesson plan, as clay leaves a lot of room for creativity! No worries if you don’t know what to make. If you are stumped, the teacher will have projects to suggest. If you know what you want to make, the teacher will help guide you.

Leave your creations with us to fire and we will let you know when they are ready to pick up. Please allow 3-4 weeks for completion.

The first parent and child pair is $30. For each additional parent or child it is $10. The class is open to younger children that would not normally take a class alone (ages 4-6), but parents accompanying these ages should be prepared to work mostly with their child to make a project together. Parents of older children (7-14) can make their own pieces.

Price includes all materials, instruction, and finishing of work. Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome if there is room in the workshop.

Sample projects:
Mini-Coil Bud vases
Crazy Creature Box
Slab built Mugs
Pinch Pot Bowls
Coil Bowls
A tunnel for your pet lizard to sleep in
Fancy Fish Sculptures
Textured Trivets
Ornaments or wind chimes

We host this workshop Saturdays from 3-6 PM.

BURGER, FRIES, & BEER

Thirsty Moose Taphouse

This past Monday night, I met up with a fellow coach to talk defensive back drills and schemes for the upcoming 2017 season. My colleague encouraged the $10 Burger and Beer special and I was all in.

This special, unbeknownst to me, was well worth it. I had a savory, medium-well burger with the fixings, excellent fries, and a cold, random beer (Circus Boy #9 was chosen for me). Fries which were not too crunchy or flimsy, they were just right – Goldilocks Fries (if you will).

Fuel formed in 1993 while playing the club circuit in and around Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The band signed to Sony Records and in 1998 released their critically lauded, debut album Sunburn with the massive hit single “Shimmer”. Their second album Something Like Human took the band to a new level of stardom, hitting multi-platinum status driven by the singles “Innocent” and “Hemorrhage”, which remained at #1 for ten weeks. In 2003 Fuel released their third record Natural Selection, and found success at radio again with the hit song “Falls On Me”.

The new decade, some life lessons, and 8 years away from the band he helped create and always loved, gave Brett a new desire to re-launch Fuel. Armed with guitarist Andy Andersson, drummer Shannon Boone, and Shinedown bassist Brad Stewart, the new lineup took to the road to reignite “Fuelies”, as their loyal fans are known. Fuel played to packed halls, sweaty rock clubs, and on festivals bills throughout the United States. The “Fuelies” wanted more, and they got it!

Totes My G.O.A.T.s

Via Derek Lynch

Before I was on my way to Intown Manchester’s Brady Sullivan office I drove south, down the longest dead-end street in the United States of America – Elm Street (A little known, random fact for locals new to the city whom enjoy random facts). I usually stop in at the Local Moose Café (located on Queen City Ave) to have a random latte (Dealer’s Choice), however this particular visit I was ready for lunch and decided to order The Hungry Goat.

This sandwich is remarkable. It’s so refreshing; For a guy who casually ate 10 egg-omelets at Julien’s Corner during high school football preseasons of the past, even light-years later I can attest to how filling this Hungry Goat sandwich is. It’s healthy for you too! The red pepper hummus spread evenly on house-made French bread really complements the juicy pickled carrots and beets (which are locally homegrown and nearby at a greenhouse), and are topped with micro-greens locally from Stout Oak Farm.

This vegan sangy is so delicious and my Greatest Of All Time at The Local Moose Café. Regardless of your diet choices, your choices will be beneficial here. While checking out their vegan options on their menu, among the other great dishes of which they serve.

Check the Local Moose Café out on the Queen City Ave neighboring the Farnum Center and parking in the lot across from Blue Bird Storage. Free Wi-Fi for those who like to work in a friendly, upbeat café environment and lounge space to have group get-togethers and collaboration.

Two trolleys will circulate to many of Manchester’s art studios, galleries and cultural attractions from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Guests can hop on or off at any designated stop. Most venues are within walking distance of each other, and guests are welcome to drive, bike or walk the route on event night.

The trolley nights are FREE and open to the public!  All of the venues are open year-round, but on Trolley Nights the venues have special events and promotions planned

#foodie friday July-15-2017

Yesterday, the Manchester Community Market was packed with locals seeking out fresh vegetables and fruits, delicious jams, jellies, dressings, meats, fish, milk and honey to take home; along with some of the best flippin’ samosas I have ever tasted from the Asian Kababs and Grill tent. Asian Kababs and Grill is new to the market this year and have enticed the taste buds of market-goers. If you haven’t tried them, I strongly recommend your consideration for seeking them out.

Snap Peas and Bok Choy from Hackleboro Orchards were a huge hit as well, and perhaps that was due in part by its owner, Harry Weiser; whom appeared on WMUR’s Cooks Corner on Wednesday at noon demonstrating his quick-and-easy Sugar Snap Peas and Bok Choy recipe best offered as a side for chicken or beef, or as it’s own summer dish! Seriously, if you want to impress your friends and family, check out the 3-minute demo here.
