20 Years of Intown: 2008

Beautification

In 2008, The Hands Across the construction of the Hands Across the Merrimack bridge was completed! The bridge was “the key feature in…the Riverfront Development plan which consisted of converting the existing truss bridge that crosses the Merrimack River and I-293 into a designated pedestrian and bicycle bridge.” This bridge created a literal path from our beautiful Downtown to the West Side of Manchester and beyond!

Downtown Development

As a result of actions by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to shore up the southern entrance to Downtown, an additional 75 commercial properties were brought into the Intown Manchester management district in 2008. The impetus for this move was the construction of the Elliot at Rivers Edge. We can’t imagine our CBSD without our wonderful South Elm businesses!
