We continue with our “20 Years of Intown” series with 1997! As we learned in our 1996 post, one large part of Intown’s mission is beautification. This series will cover various ways Intown has continued to improve its beautification efforts, but for today we cover one of our favorite efforts–Downtown holiday decorations!
Back in 1997, at the request of the mayor’s office, Intown Manchester took over the Downtown holiday decorating. One of the first purchases made by Intown was for 25 lit snowflakes on street lights along Elm Street between Granite and Harrison. Today, there are over 40 that have become synonymous with the Holidays in Downtown.
With the proceeds from our Banner Program and the Taste of Downtown, we are able to expand our beautification efforts every year, including the Holiday decorations! We are so grateful for the City of Manchester and their assistance every year in helping us with the decorations!
The stats of our efforts in 2015 were pretty impressive:
- Installation of the 40 snowflakes
- 48 wreaths at City Hall Plaza
- Lit trees at City Hall Plaza
- Christmas tree at City Hall Plaza
- Almost 200 wreaths and bows throughout Downtown
- Christmas tree at Brady Sullivan Plaza
- Lit trees at Brady Sullivan Plaza
- 15 decorated flower pots
- 12 Santas on lightpoles
We aim to continue expanding our Holiday decorating each year–we hope you enjoy!
