Continuing with January’s theme of Winter Carnival posts, today’s features some great shots of hockey and skiing courtesy of the Manchester Historic Association.
This awesome shot of the ski jump (pictured right) is from 1928 at Derryfield Park! Look at that air! While there is still cross-country skiing at Derryfield Park, skiing officially moved to McIntyre Ski in the early 1970s where it is still enjoyed today!
At the Winter Carnival, hockey games, similarly to snow shoeing races, were played at Textile Field (now Gill Stadium) which was built by the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company in 1913. The photo to the left shows “Melrose American Legion…playing against the Manchester Hockey Club which lost 1 – 0.”
This time last year we had plenty of snow to propel our winter activities well past February. This year, not quite yet!
